MI 610 Microbiology Teaching Experience (CRN No. 70079)


Prerequisites -- No specific requirements but working knowledge of microbiology required

Fall Term -- Tue or Thu -- 1:00-4:00 -- 2 credits

Course Description

Supervised practice in teaching laboratory skills and data interpretation in a microbiology teaching laboratory. During the fall semester, students will spend four hours per week engaged in the laboratory classroom instruction of students and may be required to prepare and present a didactic lecture at a prelaboratory conference. Students will be assessed on their ability to present information in the laboratory setting, knowledge of the subject, critique of student assignments, bench-level teaching skills, use of audiovisual and other teaching materials, and didactic presentation.

Faculty Information

Dr. Jerome G. Buescher received his PhD degree in Microbiology from Thomas Jefferson University. He has taught microbiology and immunology for many years to undergraduate students, graduate students, and medical students. He has a long-term interest in clinical microbiology and has held supervisory and management positions in two clinical microbiology laboratories. He has developed expertise in Team-Based Learning and incorporates this technique in some of his courses.
