Research Interests:
My current research is focused on trying to find specific genes responsible for Parkinson’s disease related cell death in the substantia nigra. Using the MPTP mouse model of Parkinson’s disease, I am comparing the relatively vulnerable substantia nigra to the neighboring ventral tegmental area, which is relatively protected in Parkinson’s disease.
I am also working on a focal ischemic stroke model in rats. The research is focused on using different types and stages of stem cells that can be transplanted into the affected area. These cells have the potential to differentiate into mature neurons, and help recover function that was lost due to ischemic stroke.

Personal:
Being a graduate student doesn’t allow for too much on the side, but I manage to get out every now and again. I love live music, playing poker and drinking wine. During the winter months you’ll probably find me skiing. Exhilarating and relaxing all at the same time, it’s my true getaway from the confines of everyday life.
