OTD at Jefferson

Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) > Curriculum Overview

Jefferson's program is designed for individuals with a master’s degree in occupational therapy (or a bachelor's in occupational therapy and a master's in another field) who wish to pursue a doctoral degree in occupational therapy. For those who do not have a BS or MS in occupational therapy, Jefferson’s Combined BS/MSOT program or entry-level master’s program (EMOT) provide starting points that seamlessly interface with the OTD program. Those with a BS in occupational therapy can earn their post-professional master's degree in our new online program.

Jefferson’s OTD program includes core coursework, electives, and 3 to 6 credits of clinical fellowship, in which students have the opportunity to work with leaders in their selected specialty area. (The number of credits required for the clinical fellowship is determined based on the student’s experience.) The fellowship culminates with a six-credit capstone project that integrates knowledge and skills with an in-depth practice experience. Each semester, students take an OTD seminar. The seminars are designed to facilitate and integrate overall learning while enhancing clinical reasoning and practice skills. If taken full-time, the OTD program may be completed in 6 semesters including Summer 1 and Summer 2.
