Program of Research in Sensory Integration at Thomas Jefferson University
Devoted to Increasing Knowledge of Sensory Integration/Sensory Processing in Children and Adults
The Sensory Integration Laboratory houses a program of research investigating the neural and behavioral markers of difficulty processing and integrating sensory information in children with autism and adults with sensory defensiveness and anxiety. Our lab examines physiological reactivity to sensations in a unique protocol – The Sensory Challenge Protocol; and behavioral markers of sensory reactivity through standardized questionnaires and interviews. We also examine the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions for children with autism who have difficulty processing and integrating sensory information. Please click below more information on our active studies.
The lab’s primary investigator, Dr. Roseann Schaaf, has devoted her career to the study of the neuro-physiological mechanism of abnormal sensory processing in children and treatment of these disorders. She is an internationally recognized expert in sensory integration in occupational therapy and known academically for her research in pediatric occupational therapy. For more information about Dr. Schaaf, click here.
If you are interested in participating in the Sensory Dysfunction in Autism Study funded by the NIH, call the lab at 215-503-5709 or download and complete the Permission to Contact Form. Mail the completed form to Kim Mollo, Thomas Jefferson University, 130 S. 9th Street, Suite 810, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
