Academic Support Services
Writing Center
The Writing Center is a place where students can go for one-on-one consultations
about their writing. Students come to the appointment with drafts of their
papers and the writing consultants give them feedback and advice. The
Writing Center also provides large-group programs focused on building
writing skills. All Jefferson College of Health Professions degree
students can use the Writing Center. The Center operates on an "appointment-only"
basis. To set up an appointment, students may call the Center for Student Development at
215-503-2787. Appointments are currently available Monday through Friday.
View more information about the Writing Center.
Personal Counseling
Students seeking personal counseling services may contact either the
Office of Student Affairs at 215-503-8189 or First Call at 1-800-382-2377.
Students may be referred for ongoing care. In such cases,
charges for care may be partially covered by the student's health insurance
plan. All students are required to carry either the College's health insurance
plan or a plan that offers equal coverage.
The PASS Program
Preparing Academic Success Strategies is a week-long
non-fee/non-credit course on academic skills like test-taking, studying,
memorization, concentration, writing, textbook reading, and time/stress
management. The class schedule is modeled after the schedule you will
follow in your actual program to help you get used to the feeling of
attending school full-time. The learning is primarily activity-based so
that you can choose the strategies that appeal to you and practice them
in the ways that suit your style. There are no grades-- the only requirements
are your attendance and participation. There are no tuition fees. The
course facilitator is the Academic Development Specialist for the Jefferson
College of Health Professions, and she will be available to assist you
before, during and after the program. PASS is great for those people who
like to get a "competitive edge" by being mentally prepared
before school starts. We especially recommend this program if you have
been out of school for more than two years, or have ever had difficulty
in a science course, or will be juggling a job/family while you attend
school.

by the PASS 2006 participants.
