Preparing for Your Email Migration

Microsoft Exchange Online provides clients with a brand new robust web interface.  Because this is a brand new email system, the current email rules, forwarding, out of office messages and signatures that you may have configured in JeffMail (http://jeffmail.jefferson.edu) will need to be reconfigured in the new Exchange web client once your email has been migrated.  If you currently have rules, forwarding, Out of Office messages and signatures configured in your email thick clients, such as Outlook and Mac Mail, these will not need to be reconfigured.

Please use the links below to learn how you can prepare for this exciting new email system.

JeffMail Email Rules

An email rule is a set of conditions, actions, and exceptions that processes and organizes your emails automatically when a certain event is triggered (e.g. you receive email from a specific recipient).

If you currently have email rules configured in JeffMail, Jeff IT recommends that you make a note of these rules so that you can reconfigure them in the new Exchange Online web interface once your email has been migrated.  For more information on accessing and noting these JeffMail rules, click here.

JeffMail Email Forwarding

If you currently have email configured in JeffMail to automatically forward to another email account, Jeff IT recommends that you make a note of these email forwarding rules so that you can reconfigure them in the new Exchange Online web interface once your email has been migrated.  For more information on accessing and noting your forwarding rules JeffMail rules, click here.

Out of Office Messages

If you currently have out of office or auto-reply messages configured in JeffMail, Jeff IT recommends that you make a note of these auto-reply rules so that you can reconfigure them in the new Exchange Online web interface once your email has been migrated. For more information on accessing and noting your auto-reply JeffMail rules, click here.

IMPORTANT: If you are on vacation during the email migration and you have enabled your Out Of Office auto-reply in JeffMail prior to leaving, these auto-replies will no longer work once your email has been migrated to Microsoft Exchange Online. If you plan on using an Out of Office message during the email migration period, Jeff IT recommends that you reconfigure your Out Of Office auto-replies in the new Exchange Online web-client immediately following your email migration. Instructions for reconfiguring your email auto-replies in the Exchange Online web-client will be listed on this site closer to the scheduled migration date.

JeffMail Email Signatures

An email signature is text that can be automatically added to an email, such as a name, title and phone number.  If you currently have email signatures configured in JeffMail, Jeff IT recommends that you save these signatures elsewhere so that you can reconfigure them in the new Exchange Online web interface once your email has been migrated.  For more information on saving your JeffMail email signatures, click here.
