Overview
The Department of Anesthesiology is a large and varied academic
department dedicated to carrying out the mission of Thomas Jefferson
University, Jefferson University Hospital, and the Jefferson Health Care Network.
The Department sponsors a fully accredited residency training program, fellowship
programs, as well as educational programs for medical students. Two nationally
recognized CME programs are offered each year as well.
Research efforts are focused on a variety of clinical and basic
science topics including control of carbohydrate metabolism, improved techniques
of pain management, malignant hyperthermia syndrome and the effects of anesthetics
on vascular smooth muscle function.
