About the Lab

The Anesthesiology Research Laboratory is equipped with a Hewlett Packard Gas Chromatograph (GC). It is fully automated using the latest version of Millennium32 chromatography software from Waters Corporation (Milford, Massachusetts). The GC houses a flame ionization detector (FID) and a nitrogen phosphorous detector (NPD). The GC is currently set up to detect local anesthetics (Bupivacaine, Lidocaine, Mepivacaine, Prilocaine and Ropivacaine) and neuromuscular blocking drugs. Both use the NPD collector for detection.

The Millennium32 software is also employed to control the laboratory's two High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems, also by Waters Corporation. At the present, the lab is set up to quantitate levels of catecholamines and serotonins. Both systems use an electrochemical detector for analyses.
