Anesthesiology Research Laboratory

The Anesthesiology Research Laboratory is part of the Department of Anesthesiology of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Thomas Jefferson is a 600-bed teaching hospital located in the center of historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Under the direction of Carlos Wilkerson, MD, PhD, the laboratory is capable of state of the art research in areas that are of interest to medical professionals. Housing two fully automated High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems and an automated Gas Chromatograph (GC), the laboratory is currently set up to analyze catecholamine levels, serotonin levels, neuromuscular blocking (NMB) drugs and local anesthetics. The research staff is also capable of performing animal studies.

In addition, the laboratory is fully accredited facility for Malignant Hyperthermia testing. All testing complies with the current protocol for the caffeine halothane contracture test established by MHAUS.
