Serotonin
Collection of Blood Samples
- A 3-5ml blood sample is drawn into a pre-chilled (4°C) EDTA(Na2) vacutainer tube (Becton-Dickson).
- The sample is gently mixed 5-6 times by hand and maintained on ice.
- Transfer 300µl aliquots into six 1.5ml cryogenic tubes (Sarstedt).
- Immediately freeze at -80°C.
- Be sure all tubes are labeled clearly.
Shipping Samples
- Samples must be shipped in dry ice by overnight carrier.
- Work quickly to prevent the small volume of sample from thawing.
- Foil wrap tubes to protect from light.
- Place in plastic bags; then pack with dry ice.
- Include a legible list of all samples being sent.
- Call the lab in advance to speak to lab personnel to inform them of samples being shipped. DO NOT LEAVE VOICE MAIL OR EMAIL.
