Consultations on Study Design and Data Analysis

What we do

The Division of Biostatistics offers two types of consulting. If you would just like advice on a study design or analysis direction you are considering, or on appropriate analytic methods, we offer courtesy consultations to Jefferson researchers. Courtesy consults are for no more than one hour and do not include data analyses. We take on more extensive consultations, typically involving data analyses, on a time-available basis. All projects are taken on a first-come first-served basis, except that priority is given to consultations for members of the Kimmel Cancer Center (which provides support to the Division of Biostatistics for this purpose).

Cost

Any consultations other than the one-hour courtesy consult are on a fee-for-service basis. For the fiscal year 2008-2009, the rates are $127 per hour for faculty and $55 per hour for consulting unit staff. We can usually prepare an estimate for the total cost of the consultation, so that the necessary approvals for the expense can be obtained prior to the initiation of the project. The consulting fee is waived for members of the Kimmel Cancer Center when their work is not extramurally supported.

Please complete a Biostatistics Consulting Services Agreement, which is available in the Division.

Whom to contact

For an appointment, any of the following faculty may be contacted:

Plan ahead!

We do not have the time or the staff to promise that we can meet a project's consulting needs on any timetable. So, please, plan ahead (e.g., allow sufficient time before abstract submission deadlines).

Would you rather do it yourself?

For simple analyses, particularly of the type you do often, you may want to consider investing the time and effort to do the work yourself. Of course, we will always be available to meet with you to help you and make sure that you are doing the right analyses.
