Barry J. Goldstein, MD, PhD
Division Director |
Residency
The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism maintains
an active role in education, patient care and research at the clinical
and molecular levels. The clinical activities of the division encompass
an in-hospital specialty service and several outpatient clinics.
Members of the division see patients with a wide variety of endocrine
and metabolic disorders, including pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid,
adrenal, gonadal and paraneoplastic diseases, as well as diabetes,
hyperlipidernia and endocrine induced hypertension.
During elective time, house staff care for both inpatients and
outpatients and take part in endocrine problem-solving and review
sessions with various members of the division. Specific lectures
cover all major areas of endocrinologic diagnosis, pathophysiology
and treatment.
The division holds weekly conferences in both general endocrinology
and gynecologic endocrinology, in addition to a monthly diabetes
seminar and biweekly journal clubs. It also encourages participation
in ongoing clinical and basic science research projects, particularly
the fields of diabetes, immunoendocrinology, hormone-receptor signaling
and lipid disorders.
