College of Graduate Studies Sample Curricula

Master of Science Program in Pharmacology/Clinical Research
Master of Science Program in Microbiology/Public Health

Master of Science Programs are 40 credits, classes offered late in the day to accommodate professionals.  Physicians may transfer a maximum of 9 credits taken in medical school to replace several required courses in each program.  A clerkship experience designed to enhance research skills and a research thesis conducted in the Department of Medicine are requirements of the Programs.

Programs can be completed in as little as two years.  In the first year of the program the focus is primarily on the didactic course requirements and involves taking two classes in each of the four academic sessions.  Each class meets only one day per week and no class begins before 3:00 PM.  The emphasis is on research in the second year.  Required classes include a seminar and courses in information and financial management.  There are opportunities to take elective courses in each year of the program based on individual interests.
