One Step Closer
Generous Gift from Farber Family Propels Record Fundraising Effort
The Parkinson's Council 7th annual Walk for Parkinson's was held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 on Kelly Drive in Philadelphia, and was a huge success. Thanks to a generous donation from the Farber Family Foundation, as well as commitment from team Captain Angela Donaldson, Interim Director Lorraine Iacovitti, Mary Clark, and The Farber Institute's Sudarshan Phani and Jingli Cai, the Institute almost tripled the amount of money raised last year.
The Farber Family Foundation's generous gift of $5,000 earned a banner and a platinum level sponsorship.
"This is the 2nd year that the Farber Institute participated in the walk, and we almost doubled our fundraising goal," said Donaldson, "It was a huge success, and is really gaining momentum."
This year, Farber planned to raise $4,000, and raised over $7,600. Sudarshan Phani, a student in the Neuroscience Graduate Program program at Thomas Jefferson University raised over $900. The Farber's team had over 40 members (15 higher than their anticipated goal) and was helped greatly by Mary Clark who heads the Honor's Society at Lower Cape May Regional High School in Cape May, NJ. Her entire class (pictured below) consisting of juniors and seniors did the walk after hopping on a bus that left NJ at 5:30 AM.

On a beautiful Saturday morning supporters and walkers lined up to support the cause. More than double the participants from last years walk participated. Donning t-shirts for support of the Parkinson's Council, many enjoyed summer-like weather en-route to finishing the 10 mile walk. ABC's weather man David Murphy was on hand to support those who attended.
