Biomedical Products for a Better Future
Currently Biotechnology Foundation Laboratories is researching the use of the following plant-based biomedical products for humans and animals:
Human Vaccines:
- AIDS
- Rabies
- Respiratory Syncytial Virus
- Hepatitis B
- Colorectal Cancer
- Stomach ulcer (Helicobacter pylori)
- Meningitis
- Anthrax
Human Antibodies:
Neurodegenerative Diseases:
DEVELOPMENT OF NOVEL THERAPEUTIC AGENTS AGAINST THE AIDS VIRUS
This research project involves the use of HIV-1 Vpr protein to generate novel therapeutic molecules with the potential for inhibiting AIDS virus replication. This work will open new avenues for treatment of AIDS virus without the emergence of drug-resistant viruses.
ROLE OF NITRIC OXIDE IN NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES
This project is aimed at developing new drugs to control symptoms of multiple sclerosis through inhibition of Nitric Oxide (NO). NO is produced in brain tissues by cells of inflammatory exudate in multiple sclerosis and other chronic diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Experimental use of specific drugs to inhibit NO production may lead to a curative approach to multiple sclerosis.
