COMMON SERVICES FOR OFF CAMPUS RENTERS:

CABLE- Comast cable at 1-800- COMCAST offers rebates on their triple play services (telephone, internet, and cable services).

GAS- Philadelphia Gas Works www.pgworks.com . Gas can be turned on within 48 hours from notification (workload permitting). There is no service charge. You can apply for service by phone, 215-235-1000, or in person. To learn more about a location closest to you, log onto www.pgworks.com.

If you have to go to the office to arrange for service, be sure to have a copy of your lease or a notarized letter from your landlord as well as two pieces of identification. It would be useful if one of the pieces of identification had your old address listed. They will also need to see your social security card. (International students should bring passports along.) Your credit history will be checked to determine if you will be required to pay a deposit. To report emergencies, call 215-235-1212.

ENERGY/ELECTRICITY SERVICES- As with all services, be sure to check with your landlord to learn whether energy payments are included in your rent costs. If not, you may need to set up this service through PECO Energy Company. While PECO is not the only energy supplier in the main supplier in the Greater Philadelphia area.

TELEPHONE SERVICES- Verizon services the entire Philadelphia metro region for local telephone services. This company also facilitates access to long distance services like AT&T, MCI, SPRINT. Call, 1-800-640-4155, toll-free, in Philadelphia only.                                                           Call, 215-571-7050 if you are making arrangements from outside of Philadelphia.                  Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. and Saturday, 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.             

HELPFUL TIP: AT&T offers a Free Call Organizer Service, which divides your monthly bill by roommate. Call 1-800-654-0471.  This could be helpful if you are living with in a house with several people or sharing a lease to an apartment.

INTERNET- While wireless internet is available on-campus, off campus living may require additional services. Below are several options. Check with your landlord first, he/she may be able to guide you in one direction.

WATER- The majority of water services are included in the cost of rent. If not, your landlord will usually pass along the bill directly to you. Please remind your landlord to allow you access to those bills in a timely manner. In order to ensure continued service it is recommended that the landlord keep the water on between tenants. Prior to move-in, arrange to have a final reading so that it is clear when you are responsible for the water being used.

On campus residents often choose a cable and telephone provider. Water is included in both residences. Electricity in the Barringer/Orlowitz Residences is arrranged before new tenant arrival. Internet service is provided by JeffIT services center.
