Jefferson Nurse Pratitioner

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

Primary Responsibilities

Administers local, inhalation, intravenous, and other anesthetics prescribed by Anesthesiologist to induce total or partial loss of sensation or consciousness in patients during surgery, deliveries, or other medical and dental procedures by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions

Prepares patient and formulates plan for patient's anesthetic/pre-anesthetic assessment. Anticipates needs of patient with respect to anesthesia and surgery, and is adequately prepared to handle such. Inserts appropriate IV's and applies appropriate monitoring procedures including insertion of CVP/Swan Gantz catheter after adequate training under direct supervision and insertion of Aline. Communicates with Operating Room personnel to optimize patient care.

Clinical Nurse Specialist

Primary Responsibilities

A registered nurse who has advanced preparation and demonstrates a high degree of professional competence in a specialized nursing field and who applies a wide range of alternatives and strategies in problem solving situations utilizing the nursing process. Promotes and supports the use of evidence based practice.

Essential Functions

Uses leadership skills to coordinate and delegate aspects of care to team members consistent with their level of education, competence and scope of practice, in order to meet patients needs. Assists staff nurse with utilizing the nursing process in providing professional nursing care based on established nursing care standards, policies and procedures. Assists staff in implementing evidence based practice to improve quality care. Maintains accountability for own practice and the aspects of care delegated to others. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.

Nurse Practitioner

Primary Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner is a registered professional who, under the sponsorship of a board certified physician and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner will be able to provide the evaluation, coordination, management and discharge planning for an identified patient population to achieve high quality care and efficient use of resources. The Nurse Practitioner functions in an expanded role within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act, Nursing and Medical Staff Policies and Procedures and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner clinical protocols. The Nurse Practitioner is granted affiliate privileges by the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Medical Staff in which the privileges list specific clinical protocols and procedures, which are reviewed biannually.

Essential Functions

Responsible for providing comprehensive care to provide the evaluation, coordination, management and discharge planning for an identified patient population to achieve high quality care and efficient use of resources. Coordinates/facilitates patient’s hospitalization and safe discharge. Maintains competency in technical skills including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that the supervising physician(s) may delegate to the Nurse Practitioner.
