The H1N1 flu can be spread easily from person to person and Jefferson is taking all necessary steps to ensure the health of our community by limiting the spread of the flu. We are working closely with the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Health departments to monitor flu conditions and make decisions about the best steps to take concerning our institution.
In the summer, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised its alert on H1N1 flu to the highest level — a global pandemic — although the Organization defined it as "moderate" in severity, noting that the overwhelming majority will suffer only mild symptoms (fever, aches and pains, sore throats, coughing, and trouble breathing) and recover fully.
To ensure that the Jefferson community is fully informed, we will be updating this site with new information as it becomes available to us. Please review the many resources and links available on this site to ensure that you have the facts about H1N1 and understand how Jefferson will manage resources if the outbreak is significant on our campuses.
CLINICIANS: For clinical updates, please refer to the Clinician page of the Hospital Intranet.

- Avian flu is caused by avian influenza viruses, which occur naturally among birds.
- Pandemic flu is flu that causes a global outbreak, or pandemic, of serious illness that spreads easily from person to person.
- Seasonal flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.
