At the September 25th Neuroscience Social, the students awarded our 2nd Annual Neuroscience Faculty Award. This award was created to recognize faculty service and contribution to the Neuroscience Program which goes above and beyond required faculty responsibilities. The students particularly wanted to recognize
a) notable involvement in the Neuroscience Program via excellence in teaching and involvement in Program activities and, b) notable involvement with the Neuroscience Program graduate students via openness to communication with students, respect for and sincere interest in the students' personal growth and well-being, and active interest and committed involvement in the students' professional development. Last year, Gerald Grunwald won the award. This year's nominees were Richard Horn (Spike), Michael Oshinsky, Davide Trotti, and Elisabeth Van Bockstaele. Richard Horn was voted this year's winner.

The inaugural award for Significant and Distinguished Contributions to the Graduate Program in Neuroscience was awarded to three faculty co-recipients: Dr. Lorraine Iacovitti, Dr. Abdolmohammed Rostami and Dr. Rosenwasser. For the past two years, these individuals have combined their efforts to provide financial support for graduate program related activities. Financial resources were used to defray expenses related to a highly regarded yearlong neuroscience seminar series that brought in speakers from around the United States, social outings for students, laboratory coats and a book allowance for all students and funds to develop recruitment materials and enhance the program website. This new award will be given annually. The recipient will be selected by the program director in consultation with the program executive committee. |
