ANNUAL POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM

 The JPA and the OPA co-host a Postdoctoral Research Symposium in the late spring/early summer each year. All postdocs are encouraged to submit abstracts that are delivered as oral or poster presentations. Prizes are given to the best oral and poster presentations. The Symposium includes an invited luncheon, keynote speaker, career fair and vendor expo, awards ceremony, and reception. More information is available by contacting the Symposium Planning Committee.

TECHNICAL SKILLS SEMINARS

The Jefferson Postdoctoral Association (JPA) hosts a technical skills seminar series each month. These seminars are sponsored by biotechnology companies and they present cutting-edge research techniques utilized by the research community here at Jefferson. CAREER PATHS FOR POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS SEMINARS

Throughout the academic year, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs provides up to seven career seminars. These seminars are given by PhD or MD scientists who have gone into a variety of careers from academia to industry to non-traditional, such as writing and venture capital. TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Postdoctoral Fellowship Application Program (PFAP)

The JPA/OPA has designed a series of seminars to assist postdocs in preparing fellowship applications. The pilot program ran from September-November 2006 and plans are underway to offer the course again in 2007. The outline of the program is available online.

Scientific Management Course

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, along with four area institutions and
ScienceCareers.org, has organized a "Scientific Management Course for
Postdoctoral Fellows". It is being held from October 2006 through March
2007. The objective of the course is to enhance skills that are necessary
for a successful academic career. Detailed information about the current course
(closed to new enrollees) is available.

Jefferson College of Graduate Studies Courses

The Jefferson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) offers courses to postdoctoral scientists. TJU tuition assistance/reimbursement program will cover 90% of the cost and postdocs are required to pay only 10%. There is an online list of courses offered. Sponsored Research Program Administration

A variety of learning opportunities to develop best practices in sponsored research administration (grants, clinical trials, etc) at Thomas Jefferson University can be found on the webpage of the Office of Research Administration. Professional development is offered both online and in person; at the webpage, click on the button that says “Professional Development” for class descriptions and to sign up, the button labeled “Register for Training.”

Academic and Instructional Support and Resources

Academic and Instructional Support and Resources (AISR) provides educational, research and clinical activities for the Jefferson community. The resources offered by AISR include PowerPoint and Photoshop workshops. To learn more about AISR, visit their website.
