Jefferson Postdoctoral Association
(JPA)
Mission statement
The goals of the JPA are to provide a channel for communication, to promote
understanding and intellectual stimulation, and to improve the position of
postdoctoral fellows in training and extracurricular matters at Thomas
Jefferson University (TJU). To accomplish these goals, the JPA hosts monthly
meetings along with social hours, career seminars, technical skills
seminars, and professional development workshops such as a fellowship
application program.
New – International Postdoctoral Committee (IPC)
The Jefferson Postdoctoral Association (JPA) has been helping national and international postdocs for the past six years. For the smooth transition of international postdocs to Jefferson and the US, JPA has formed an International Postdoctoral Committee (IPC). This committee meets monthly with Dr. Lisa Kozlowski from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and a representative from the International Office.
The major aims of this committee are:
- Providing country-specific information to international postdocs, before and after they arrive at Jefferson.
- Increasing interactions among international postdocs by arranging social events for them.
To join the committee or for more information, please contact the IPC at jpa@jefferson.edu.
The monthly Jefferson Postdoctoral Association meetings generally include an invited speaker who makes a presentation of interest to the JPA membership. Past meetings and their featured speakers can be viewed online.

About the JPA
In 2003, at the invitation of the Jefferson College of Graduate Studies
(JCGS), postdoctoral fellows established their own professional association
at TJU – the Jefferson Postdoctoral Association (JPA). Around the same time,
the JCGS established the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) which is
headed up by Lisa Kozlowski, PhD, the Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral
Affairs and Recruitment. Dr. Kozlowski and the JPA work closely together to
improve the training experience for postdocs at TJU by running regular
events such as seminars, meetings, programs and social gatherings and by
addressing institutional policy regarding postdoctoral fellows.
The JPA is a volunteer organization – if you would like to be involved in
our activities in any way, small or large, please email us at the address
below. If you are a postdoc that is not receiving regular emails from
jpa@jefferson.edu, please notify us at the following address and we will
add you to our mailing list.
