Outcomes

Below is an overview of what the 2004 Summer Training Institute teams has accomplished as of December 2004.

  1. WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
    1. Creighton University
      • Complete first phase of web development.
      • Launched their website, http://ehealth.creighton.edu/
      • Creighton University gave passwords to select community members so that they can update and add to the website
    2. Howard University
      • Completed focus groups and are in the preliminary steps of developing the content.
    3. •  White Memorial Medical Center
      • Recruited website design content experts

  2. eHEATLH INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
    1. Howard University
      • Have identified computers for their target population and will purchase them once they release their budget.

  3. NEW PARTNERSHIPS
    1. •  Creighton University
      • Creighton University's Office of Interprofessional Scholarship and Service – agreed to provide technical assistance for the website and free server space
      • Community Stakeholders - A tribal IT person agreed to provide technical assistance at the reservation
      • Diabetes Medical Management Team – exploring ways to link team's website with the Diabetes Critical Pathway program

  4. eHEALTH CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
    1. Creighton University
      • Education of physical therapy students in website content design
    2. Howard University
      • Education of graduate speech-language pathology students in eHealth promotion.
      • Incorporated eHealth promotion into training of speech-language-hearing clinicians in one clinic.
    3. Springfield Technical Community College
      • Students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program are developing community-based OT interventions that will be incorporated into the team's website.

  5. GRANT DEVELOPMENT & FUNDING
    1. Creighton University
      • eHealth team members and tribal stakeholders are researching funding opportunities to create computer infrastructure in the tribe's Wellness Center
    1. Howard University
      • Received a $10,500 grant from Association of Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to support their efforts.

      Martinez, Silvia, Elie, Martine, & Smith, Tara. “ Increasing Health Using Technology: Talking Photonovelas,” The District of Columbia Speech- Language-Hearing Association.
    4. Holy Redeemer, Howard University and Thomas Jefferson University
      A presentation was made at the November ASHA Conference in Philadelphia for participants interesting in the eHealth Program. Presenters included Kevin Lyons and Kathy Swenson Miller of the Project Team and Summer Institute participants, Silvia Martinez, Janice Trent and Margarita Bautista-Vigas of Howard University and Maggie Vescovich of Holy Redeemer.

  7. PUBLICATIONS
    1. Thomas Jefferson University
      Members of the Project Team, Kevin Lyons, Kathy Swenson-Miller and Diane Cornman-Levy, wrote an article for the Jefferson Health Policy Newsletter entitled, “JCHP to Conduct eHealth Summer Institute.” The Newsletter is a publication of Thomas Jefferson University that has a readership of over 40,000 healthcare professionals.
