Allied Health CEEPs-UP > Overview of eHealth Promotion Training Institute

Overview of the eHealth Promotion Training Institute

The eHealth Promotion Institute is a five day, hands-on program designed to help interdisciplinary teams of allied health professionals from occupational therapy, physical therapy and/or speech-language pathology develop a health promotion Website for use in an underserved community.

Each team will be asked to bring with them a plan for a health promotion program designed for use in an underserved population. During the Institute the team will refine this plan so that it can be adapted into an Internet-based program. Other components of the Institute during the week include:

  • learning basic Web design skills using FrontPage software,

  • tailoring the health promotion program to match the cultural, literacy and special needs of the target community,

  • identifying and evaluating current health Websites, using a valid and reliable instrument, to select appropriate links to your Website,

  • developing strategies to address the computer and health literacy needs of that target community,

  • developing an eHealth infrastructure in an underserved community,

  • conducting needs assessments to determine primary needs of the target community.

Members of the teams will both participate in the Institute and serve as visiting faculty by contributing their experiences and knowledge of their underserved population. At the eHealth Promotion Training Institute team members will collaborate with other participants to help refine their program. After returning to their home communities, each team will participate in a listserv that will allow them to communicate with one another regarding the progress of their eHealth Promotion Program and gain advice as to how to overcome barriers that they face.
