History of the Center/Objectives of the Center

The Center for Collaborative Research (CCR) was organized as a result of a 1988 strategic planning initiative to position the College as a leading college of allied health sciences in the nation. It responds to national assessment which identified importance of developing strong research base in allied health and focus on health policy issues from a nursing and allied health perspective.

The Center engages in three major, interrelated efforts:

  • collaborative research and faculty development
  • allied health policy
  • longitudinal study

Selected Center activities include:

  • faculty research development, including workshops and mentoring individual faculty members
  • technical assistance on faculty grant proposals
  • initiation and coordination of interdisciplinary grants
  • conducting Center-based research
  • tracking priorities of selected federal agencies, private foundations and corporations
  • developing working relationships with federal agency, foundation and corporate personnel
  • developing collaborative relationships to pursue research and health policy initiatives throughout Thomas Jefferson University
  • coordinating allied health policy initiatives such as conducting health services research and tracking legislation
  • conducting JCHP Longitudinal Study and disseminating results both internally and externally
  • working with the Office of International Affairs to expand on international contacts to facilitate international cooperation and the development of international research projects
