Dr. Devine joined the Department of Bioscience Technologies in August, 2001.
From 1987 to July, 2001, Dr. Devine was a member of the faculty of the
Department of Clinical Sciences Education at the Medical College of Pennsylvania
(MCP)-Hahnemann University (HU), School of Health-Related Professions,
where she was an Assistant Professor. She coordinated the Immunohematology
discipline, requiring her to develop, organize and implement courses,
including lectures, laboratory sessions and clinical laboratory practicum
rotations, for both baccalaureate-level Medical Technology and associate
degree-level Medical Laboratory Technician students. Her discipline courses
included Basic Immunology, Immunohematology (Blood Banking) and Serology.
In addition, she revised and taught MCP-HU's Clinical Pathology course
and coordinated the delivery of Laboratory Management and Seminar courses.
She also delivered selected lectures in Immunology to graduate and undergraduate
students in physical therapy and emergency medical services.
From 1981 - 1987, Dr. Devine was employed as a Medical Technologist at
Haverford Community hospital where she was responsible for diagnostic
testing in all areas of the clinical laboratory. Prior to this, Dr. Devine
worked consecutively as a Medical Technologist, Senior Medical Technologist
and Medical Laboratory Specialist at Temple University Hospital. As a
working technologist, and as a coordinator of student clinical education
from 1976 to the present, Dr. Devine has kept current with developments
in her specialized areas of expertise, as well as in the technical and
quality assurance practices of all areas of clinical laboratory practice.
She has served as a Site Visitor for Medical Technology programs for the
National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Bioscience Technologies (NAACLS)
and is an active participant in the Pennsylvania Society of Clinical Laboratoy
Sciences (PSCLS), especially in PSCLS' education arm. Dr. Devine has a
keen interest in developing Bioscience Technologies materials which are adaptable
for CAI and internet formats.
