Department Chair

Kenneth W. Covelman, PhD, Director of Training at Council for Relationships

Council for Relationships

Founded in 1932 as the Marriage Council of Philadelphia, The Council for Relationships (CFR)is a pioneering institution in the field of couple and family therapy treatment and training. It is a large, private, non-profit psychotherapy center specializing in treating emotional problems from a systems perspective. CFR is dedicated to helping people improve the important relationships in their lives by providing the highest quality clinical care, professional training, and research. CFR is an independent organization affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Jefferson Medical College. As of 2006, CFR is a partner with JCHP, offering the master’s degree in Family Therapy (MFT).

Licensure/Certification

Students who complete the CFR/Jefferson MFT are eligible for licensure or certification. Individual states establish laws regulating licensure, and some states do not have licensing laws. Jefferson's program meets the academic requirements of all states in the northeast region and most states nationally. In addition to the academic requirements, all states require supervised clinical experience beyond the master’s degree and the successful completion of an exam before a therapist can be licensed.

Accreditation

Thomas Jefferson University is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The Couple and Family Therapy program is established in anticipation of seeking American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) accreditation. All program information, accurate at time of publication, may be subject to change. Please check our Web site for the most current information.
