BSN Graduates Earn High Marks on NCLEX

Class of 2009 graduates of Jefferson School of Nursing undergraduate programs (ASN and BSN degrees) excelled on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), which is the licensure examination for registered nurses. Dean Mary Schaal shares, "I am very proud to say that the scores are outstanding – attributable to the commitment of the faculty and responsiveness of our students to the curriculum."

The scores, reported on September 11, showed a 99.4% pass rate for all BSN graduates who have taken the exam. Graduates of the ASN portion of the ASN-BSN program who have taken the test have a 98.7% pass rate overall. These scores are higher than the 2008 scores of 96.5% for BSN and 86% for ASN-BSN.

So far, 100% of the FACT (accelerated BSN program for second-degree students) students who have taken the exam have passed it, and 100% of the ASN-BSN students at Jefferson’s Geisinger Medical Center campus who have taken the exam have passed.

Here is the breakdown of results by program:

• FACT BSN (12-month Facilitated Academic Coursework Track): 86 of 94 graduates (91.5%) have taken the NCLEX, and 100% have passed.
  
  
• Traditional BSN (2-year program): 81 of 114 graduates (71%) have taken the NCLEX, and 80 passed and 1 failed, yielding a 98.76% pass rate.
  
  
• ASN graduates of the ASN-BSN program at the Center City Philadelphia campus: 40 of 48 graduates (83%) have taken the NCLEX, and 39 passed and 1 failed, yielding a 97.5% pass rate.
  
  
• ASN graduates of the ASN-BSN program at the Geisinger Medical Center campus: 39 of 45 graduates (86.6%) have taken the NCLEX, and 100% passed the exam.
