Gitlin Recognized for Innovation in Research and Contributions to Lives of Elderly
Laura N. Gitlin, PhD, Director of Jefferson Center for Applied Research on Aging and Health at Thomas Jefferson University, was selected by the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society (EPGS) as this year's recipient of The Charles Ewing Memorial President’s Award. The award honors an individual who has made significant, innovative contributions to the field of geriatric care. A statement from EPGS says that Dr. Gitlin is receiving the award for her “outstanding service and contributions to improving the lives of elderly patients.” It was noted that Dr. Gitlin’s many intervention studies such as TAP (Tailored Activity Program) for individuals with dementia, ABLE (Advancing Better Living for Elders), ACT (Advancing Caregiver Training) for individuals with functional difficulties and COPE (Care of Persons with dementia in their Environment) have provided the evidence for a new vision of geriatric care. She was honored at EPGS’s award dinner December 6, 2009.
