Nursing Students Recognized for Excellence
Sarah Calan Received Edward Hyland CRNA Scholarship; Myrlita Clark Named Paul Ambrose Scholar
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — July 26, 2007 —This spring, two students from the Jefferson School of Nursing were recognized for their excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
Sarah Calan, a second-year CRNA student, received the Edward Hyland CRNA scholarship award from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA.) The scholarship, named after the late Edward Hyland, a former CRNA at Christiana Hospital, recognizes an outstanding student Nurse Anesthetist who is currently residing and servicing in the Delaware Valley. Sarah’s exemplary academic record, including a 3.9 GPA, and strong clinical experience at Christiana Hospital earned her the distinguished honor and a $1,000 scholarship, which she will apply to tuition costs.
Philadelphia native Myrlita Clark graduated this spring with a master’s in nursing degree (MSN) and specialization as a family nurse practitioner (FNP). Adding to her list of accolades, Myrlita was selected as one of 40 national Paul Ambrose Scholars. The Paul Ambrose Scholars Program provides leadership training and education to graduate clinical students interested in public health, prevention, healthcare policy, and medical and health sciences education, with the intention of cultivating student leaders capable of expanding the focus of health professions education.
As part of the Paul Ambrose Scholars Program, Myrlita will attend a three-day symposium in Washington D.C. in July. Following the symposium, Myrlita plans to create a chronic kidney disease education newsletter with the $200 micro-grant she was awarded as a Scholar.
