Jefferson Community Members Win Nightingale Awards

Two members of the Jefferson School of Nursing community were honored at the 2009 Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania event in October. Beth Ann Swan, PhD, CRNP, professor and senior associate dean of JSN academic affairs, received the Excellence in Nursing Research award. This award is based on the demonstration of excellence in several areas, including how each nurse significantly influences the quality of patient care, creates a collaborative environment for the practice of nursing, models caring and compassion and contributes to healing and health in the community.

ASN-BSN student Megan Elizabeth Barry was a scholarship recipient, selected based on academic achievement, leadership potential as evidenced by special honors and/or special recognition, community service and personal commitment to the profession of nursing.

Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania is a statewide, non-profit foundation created to help recruit and retain nursing professionals. It is governed by a 24 member Board of Trustees, consisting of individuals who are leaders in nursing, business, industry and other health care fields.
