TWO OF JEFFERSON’S RADIOLOGIC SCIENCES PROGRAMS RECEIVE ACCREDITATION

MRI and Nuclear Medicine Programs Recognized for Meeting High Educational Standard

PHILADELPHIA – November 27, 2007 – The Department of Radiologic Sciences at Thomas Jefferson University’s Jefferson College of Health Professions announces the recent accreditation of two programs, MRI and Nuclear Medicine. The programs have been recognized for providing the scope and quality of professional preparation required in the field and exceeding the educational standards set by the review committees.

Department Chair Frances Gilman, MS, RT(R)(CT)(MR)(CV)ARRT, received formal recognition of the accreditation from two nationally recognized accrediting agencies, the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT). Jefferson’s programs are among few radiologic sciences programs in the Northeast to hold this accreditation.

“I am very pleased to announce that both the MRI program and the Nuclear Medicine program received full initial programmatic accreditation by their respective Joint Review Committees,” says Ms. Gilman. “Congratulations to the program directors, Dr. Richard Weening, PhD, RT(R)(CT)(MR), Program Director of CT & MRI and Dr. Christina Truluck, PhD, CNMT, RT(N), Program Director of Nuclear Medicine.”

The Department of Radiologic Sciences includes nine other programs: General Sonography, Cardiac Sonography and Vascular Technology, all of which are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS); Radiography and Radiation Therapy, which are accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT); Computed Tomography (CT); Medical Dosimetry; Invasive Cardiovascular Technology; and PET/CT.
