Jefferson’s Colleges Against Cancer Chapter Hosting First Relay for Life in April
Jefferson walkers will "pull an all-nighter" in the battle against cancer during the university's first American Cancer Society Relay for Life on April 23 and 24. This 'celebration of life' brings students, faculty and friends together in their unified effort to fight back against cancer.
Teams of enthusiastic relayers will gather at Jefferson Alumni Hall for the overnight relay against cancer. The two-day event includes bands, games and guest speakers, as well as a celebration of cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), who will walk a lap around the track to start the event.
"Relay for Life is a life-changing experience that helps us celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease," said Lisa Spencer, faculty advisor of the event.
A major highlight of the evening is the after-dark Luminaria Ceremony, which honors cancer survivors and remembers those who have lost the battle against cancer.
"Relay for Life is as much about building awareness of the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society," said Danielle DeFalco (Radiologic Sciences) and Ken McCluskey (Nursing), event co-chairs. "Jefferson students are the future of healthcare and the funds raised will enable us to continue our investment in the fight against cancer through educational programs, research and services to patients."
