Thomas Jefferson University’s College of Health Professions National Allied Health Week

Philadelphia, PA, October, 2001 – Allied Health Week will be celebrated nationally November 4 though 10, 2001, to honor health care providers working in more than 200 allied health professions. Jefferson’s Jefferson College of Health Professions is taking this opportunity to recognize all current and future allied health professionals in the College community. The College is coordinating special events to show their appreciation to its faculty, students and alumni for their dedication and hard work to the allied health profession.

Constituting approximately 60 percent of all healthcare providers, allied health practitioners greatly influence health care delivery by supporting, facilitating and complementing the roles of physicians and other healthcare specialists. This collaboration of care, which emphasizes the strengths of all health professions, is enhancing the quality of care in this country and abroad.

The Jefferson College of Health Professions of Thomas Jefferson University, founded in 1969 and located in the heart of Philadelphia, provides innovative academic programs to a highly qualified, culturally diverse student population, with the primary goal of developing outstanding professionals and future leaders in health care. The College offers fully accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in diagnostic imaging, laboratory sciences, nursing, occupational therapy and physical therapy. In addition, the College offers selected health certificate programs and associate degrees in general studies.

The new era in healthcare delivery finds allied health professionals employed in public and private sectors- not only in hospitals but also in clinics, laboratories, nursing homes, mental health facilities, private medical practices, research institutions, public health services and pharmaceutical companies. Allied health personnel are also employed in industry, where they administer basic health care and emergency first aid to workers, inspect equipment and assure that safe work practices are followed. Additionally, these professionals may act as technical advisors and representatives in the manufacturing and marketing of medical equipment and supplies.
