Neonatal Education Consortium

The Neonatal Education Consortium (NEC) is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services: Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Division of Nursing for a three-year period from July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2007. The amount of funding over three years is $650,000. The Neonatal Education Consortium, at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) will offer a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) program in collaboration with The College of New Jersey and the University of Delaware. Students may apply at their home campus and matriculate into the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner courses at their own University/College.
Neonatal Education

Mission of NEC: To facilitate the education of master's prepared neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) in New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. NEC will focus on two national goals defined in Healthy People 2010: improving the health and well being of women, infants, children and families; as well as educating and preparing nurses who are ethnically and culturally competent.

The NEC collaboration will recruit and facilitate the education of professional nurses leading to the MSN degree as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. The tri-state educational consortium will plan, design, implement and operate a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program that will prepare advance practice nurses to serve medically underserved populations in rural and urban DE, NJ, and PA.
