Ridge Avenue Shelter
The Ridge Avenue Shelter is one of the largest men’s shelters in Philadelphia. It provides beds for 200-500 men per night and offers day programs and services. It is managed by Resources for Human Development, Inc. (RHD), and serves as the central intake site for the city’s Office of Emergency Shelter Services (OESS). The Ridge Shelter also provides non-residential support and services for homeless men living on the street, Progressive Demand Residence (PRD) for homeless men with serious and persistent mental illness, behavioral health interventions and psychiatric medical services. The JeffHOPE clinic at Ridge opened in July 2001 and sees 30-40 patients per night for anything from acute to chronic medical care, physical therapy needs, and numerous educative screening programs. The JeffHOPE Education Committee also attends Ridge weekly to provide smoking cessation and diabetes educational programming.
