Buying a Computer
PC-related Hardware
Jeff IT has researched a variety of PC, printer, and related hardware and software and has chosen several preferred vendors. For PCs, they are Dell and Apple. For printers we support Hewlett-Packard.
Clients who purchase hardware and software through Jeff IT will receive full repair and troubleshooting support with certified technicians. Individuals who purchase other brands will receive limited support depending on the staff's familiarity with these devices.
PC Hardware Standards
The following are our standard brands, devices, and configurations of Jeff IT supported PC hardware.

| PC Desktops | Dell Optiplex 990 series is the current model available from Dell for all new purchases and lease replacements. Dell Latitude E6220 (12"), E6320 (13"), E6420 (14") and E6520 (15") | All PCs that are still under their Dell three year warranty coverage are fully supported by Jeff IT. Out of warranty machines are supported on a “best effort” basis. No PCs older than the Optiplex 960 models are supported. | The Dell Optiplex 960 is the oldest model that is supported. Machines below the Optiplex 960 model are out of warranty, but may still be operable in a diminished capacity. | Full support of the desktop coincides with the Dell Warranty Status. |

| Network Printers | Hewlett-Packard
Xerox (Phaser series) |
HP printers are the standard on campus for network printing. Connection and driver support for all printers is provided by Jeff IT. | Only specific HP network printers support Last Word and/or IDX printing. Xerox phaser printers do not support LW or IDX printing. | |
| Local Printers | Hewlett-Packard Dell | .Hardware support for Dell printers that are still under Dell warranty is provided by Jeff IT. | Local printers not purchased through Jeff IT are completely unsupported. Printer sharing is not allowed. | |
| Scanners | HP Business Class Scanners that support USB connection. | Jeff IT supports driver and software issues only. | Scanners using SCSI or Parallel Port connections are supported on a “best effort” basis. | Scanners using Windows 95 or 98 drivers are not supported. |
| PDAs and Converged Devices | Devices that can run Intellisync software and Blackberries | In order to be able to run Intellisync, a device must be running Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0, or Palm OS 4.1 or greater. Blackberries must be 8100 series or above. Jeff IT does not support the iPod Touch or the iPhone. | ||

Jeff IT will provide support for software and driver issues only, and only for devices purchased through Jeff IT. | Jeff IT is not responsible for data loss incurred by clients due to disk failure. Windows file sharing is not permitted. | |
| Other Hardware | Monitors: Monitors still under Dell
warranty coverage will be replaced by Jeff IT. Out of warranty
monitors are replaced at client’s expense.
Loaner PCs: Loaner PCs are provided as a courtesy and on a limited basis to clients when a current PC is being replaced and will only be provided upon receipt of a valid RTP for a replacement device. Keyboards & Mice: Input devices still under Dell warranty coverage will be replaced by Jeff IT. Out of warranty devices are replaced at client’s expense. |
