==================== JeffNEWS, April 1995 ==================== Environmental Health And Safety `Train the Trainer' Sessions Set for April and May --------------------------------------------------- Environmental health and safety and infection control staff will conduct "train the trainer" sessions for medical staff and hospital employees during April and May, says Martha A. Anderson, assistant vice president for safety and security. Topics to be covered include biological hazards, microbial safety, HIV, the respiratory protection program, TB and AFB isolation, chemical hazards, laboratory safety programs and the Right-to-Know program. Guest speakers will be Mary C. Sinnott, of rehabilitation medicine, presenting on back safety, and Ed Barr, of environmental services, talking on infectious waste. The "train the trainer" format is designed to ensure that trainers can present information on these topics and issues to other department members as required by local and Federal laws for all employees. The overall goal is to provide current safety and infection control education to all hospital staff, resulting in a safer working environment and quality patient care. The program for new trainers consists of two 3-1/2 hour sessions. In addition, single 3-hour update sessions for current trainers are scheduled for May. These will contain information on the respiratory protection program, AFB isolation and TB, as well as updates on the hazards of bloodborne pathogens, chemical and laboratory exposures and fire safety. All trainers must pre-register for the sessions by contacting Cherry Moragne at 4711. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Information provided by: Editor, JeffNEWS (215) 955-6204 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
