==================== JeffNEWS, April 1995 ==================== JeffQuip Home Medical Supplies Opens Retail Store for Patients -------------------------------------------------------------- JeffQuip will open a retail store at 1020 Chestnut on April 3. "We're opening this store so that patients can have the convenience of one- stop-shopping for all the supplies they need to bring home when they're discharged from the hospital," said Kevin Cannava, CF, assistant manager for retail operations, JeffQuip. "By supplying patients with disposable items and supplies, we add the necessary complement to Jefferson's pharmacy, home infusion, home nursing and home medical equipment services," Mr. Cannava said. The store stocks a vast assortment of medical equipment, and the staff offers a service-intensive approach to filling customers' needs. On the shelves are glucose monitors, neck braces, hand splints, knee braces, back supports and high-compression stockings. There are also breast pumps for new mothers, ostomy supplies, nebulizers, cholesterol testing kits, stethoscopes and blood-pressure monitors. People with arthritis or similar conditions can find aids to make daily living easier. "`Service-intensive' means that we don't just sell you what you need, but we also show you how to use it," said Lisa Allen, assistant director for JeffQuip operations. "We have staff with the training and time to provide proper patient education and a private room in which to do it," Ms. Allen said. "We can also order anything we don't stock," she said. "Patients can look through our library of catalogs for a particular product, which we'll then order for them." "In addition, we have another private room - this one for prescription fitting of orthopaedic supports and other supplies," said Mr. Cannava, who is a certified fitter. JeffQuip even makes payment easier: All Jeffersonians receive an employee discount, and purchases can be made with major credit cards, checks or money orders. In addition, if you belong to a participating insurance company or are on Medicare, the staff will file the necessary forms for you. "We're here to help make the transition from the hospital to home as easy as we can for our patients and those in the community," said Mr. Cannava.
