===================== JeffNEWS, May 1, 1995 ===================== Integration Update healthLINK ------------------ To update you about implementation progress on Jefferson's healthcare information systems plan, developed by multidisciplinary working groups representing the medical staff, Jefferson Medical College, the hospital and the department of information systems: Primary Vendor Strategy Work is under way to identify one or two software vendors who can provide a significant percentage of the applications described in the healthcare information systems plan. Fourteen vendors responded to an initial request for information. Five vendors have been selected for further study based on the range of applications they provide and their experience in academic health centers or integrated healthcare delivery systems. Process manager: Mary McNichol Health Services Network To ensure that new information system capabilities are accessible to those who can benefit from them, an aggressive schedule for campus cabling has been established. Ray Communications has been selected as the vendor. The next step in this process will identify the voice and data network cable locations in the six buildings D Gibbon, College, Curtis, Thompson, Pavilion and Main D targeted for this first phase. Cabling will be completed by December. A detailed campus cabling plan is also available. Process managers: Gail Bernhard, Joe McNally. Common Patient Registration A common patient registration system is central to Jefferson's ability to provide high quality and cost-effective patient care across delivery sites and settings. The project team has redesigned the patient registration process and defined criteria for vendor selection. Process manager: Susan Milner. Physician Practice Management The physician practice management system will provide required information systems capabilities in support of physician office practice. The work of the team charged with identifying a vendor was well under way prior to the completion of the healthcare information systems plan, and the team has been evaluating vendors based on practice billing and managed care criteria. The common registration practice management and vendor selection team are working together to ensure that selected applications will interface effectively. The selection of a primary vendor(s), a registration system and a physician practice management system will be coordinated and completed in mid-June. Process manager: Tom Kupp. Watch for information on the next priority projects - order entry and resource scheduling - in future Integration Updates.
