========================= JeffNEWS, October 5, 1994 ========================= NewsBRIEFS FACULTY WIVES CLUB TO ENJOY BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S -------------------------------------------------- The Faculty Wives Club of Jefferson Medical College will start the season with a special treat - Breakfast at Tiffany's! The legendary jewelers will open their store at 1414 Walnut Street on Wednesday, October 12, at 9:30 a.m. for continental breakfast and a presentation by the noted authority on American decorative silver, Edward Wawrynek, vice president of product marketing, Tiffany & Co. Program co-chairmen are Linda Carol Graham and Michelle Ruby. The club provides educational and cultural programs for spouses of Jefferson Medical College faculty. In addition, the club's members sponsor the Jefferson Art Exhibit each spring and have established an Emergency Loan Fund to meet unexpected expenses medical students may incur. NUTRITION SEMINAR SERIES CONTINUES ---------------------------------- Please join us for the next Nutrition Seminar Series to take place on Tuesday, October 18. John Rombeau, MD, associate professor, department of surgery, Hospital of the Univeristy of Pennsylvania, will present "Effects of Nutrients, Fuels and Growth Factors on Gut Structure and Function." The seminar will run from noon to 1 p.m. in the DePalma Auditorium, lower level of the Thompson Building, and lunch will be provided. The nutrition seminar series is designed to provide members of the Jefferson community with opportunities to discuss current issues and research related to nutrition. ANNUAL SAFETY FEST SET FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12 ------------------------------------------------ Jefferson's annual Safety Fest is set for Wednesday, October 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Plaza of the Scott Memorial Library. The theme for this year's event is "Islands of Paradise." All Jefferson departments are invited to participate by sponsoring a table with your safety or security program and other functions of your department. Awards will be given to the three most effective displays as selected by a group of nonpartisan judges. MARKETING OFFERS MEDICAL PRACTICE MANAGEMENT SEMINAR ON UNDERSTANDING CAPITATION --------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the keys to success under managed care is understanding the implications of operating under capitated payments. The department of marketing offers a medical practice management seminar focusing on understanding capitation. This seminar will cover assessing capitation payments and understanding the incentives of being paid a fixed per member, per month amount. The seminar is open to all volunteer and fulltime practices.
