====================== JeffNEWS, June 7, 1994 ====================== Training begins for new policies, new forms ------------------------------------------- Training sessions will soon begin to instruct employees in utilizing University forms, which are being revised effective July 1. New policies impacting forms will be summarized, specific form application examples will be discussed, and key reference materials will be provided. These open sessions will last approximately one hour and require no advance registration. Employees who complete and/or approve request to purchase, request for payment, report of travel expenses (formerly report of individual expenses), and interdepartmental charges (IDC) forms are urged to attend any one of the following sessions: o Tuesday, June 7, 10 a.m., DePalma Auditorium o Tuesday, June 14, 2:30 p.m., 101 Bluemle LSB o Thursday, June 16, 10 a.m., DePalma Auditorium If you have any questions about the training sessions, please contact Nancy Porcellini, controller's office, at 8591. Monday, June 27, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 145 Jeff Hall Come to the Form Exchange: New for Old! ------------------------------------------------- To assist departments in obtaining new forms, there will be a one-day free exchange of unopened packages of the following forms: request to purchase, request for payment and report of individual expenses. Just bring wrapped packages of old forms at the time and location noted above and you'll receive a package of new forms in exchange. All opened packages of old forms should be discarded in recycle containers after July 1. Please do not return any forms to the warehouse. If you do not plan to participate in the form exchange, new forms will be available in the warehouse in mid-June and should be ordered through the normal supply requisition process. Old forms will not be accepted after July 1. PENNY WISE THRIFT SHOP RECESSES FOR SUMMER AFTER JUNE 30 -------------------------------------------------------- The Penny Wise Thrift Shop of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, 57-59 E. Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, will recess for the summer at the close of business on Thursday, June 30, and reopen on Monday, August 15. Until the shop's summer closing, furniture, clothing, china, silver, bric-a-brac and antiques will be sold from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday. AISR OFFERS NEW DATABASE ------------------------ Academic Information Services and Research (AISR) has added the CANCERLIT database to its JEFFLINE information server. Cancer researchers and clinicians can access more than 800,000 cancer articles dating back to 1986. CANCERLIT is updated monthly with 6,000 new references added. CANCERLIT, produced by the U.S. National Cancer Institute, includes information on all aspects of experimental and clinical cancer therapy; information on chemical, viral and other agents that cause cancer; mechanisms of carcionogenesis; biochemistry, immunology, physiology and biology of cancer, both in vivo and in vitro; and studies of growth factors and other agents that stimulate cell division. BENEFITS STATEMENTS WILL BE DELIVERED SOON ------------------------------------------ If you're an active, fulltime nonbargaining employee, watch the mail for your Jefferson benefits statement, scheduled to arrive at your work site early in June. Your benefits statement reflects the benefits you had on April 1, 1994, under OPT: The Jefferson Flexible Benefits Program and your projected retirement benefits from the University. WORK/LIFE FAIR TAKES PLACE AT JEFFERSON --------------------------------------- The Work Life Balance: A Network of Delaware Valley Employers will host area managers who implement their company's work and family policies at a Work/Life Fair on Tuesday, June 14, in Jefferson's Bluemle Life Sciences Building. "The network was created to advance the agenda of work and family within organizations by supporting those responsible for this area," explained Lisa F. Gamache, benefits manager and a member of the organization. "Our concerns extend beyond child and elder care to the way employees balance work and family issues," Ms. Gamache said. Exhibitors at the Work/Life Fair will include vendors and consultants displaying their services and products, and employers showcasing their work and family policies, programs, training materials and employee handbooks. Jefferson is among the 28 area corporations who have so far joined the network. Among the others are: Charming Shoppes Inc., SmithKline Beecham, CoreStates Bank, The Touchstone Partnership and Cigna.
