====================== JeffNEWS, June 7, 1994 ====================== Faculty Awards Given, Students Honored at College of Allied Health Sciences' Third Annual Awards Ceremony ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The recent Awards Ceremony of the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) featured three faculty awards, three honor society activities, and the College's recognition of faculty length of service. CAHS senior associate dean Linda G. Kraemer, PhD, welcomed the McClellan Hall audience, and University president Paul C. Brucker, MD, delivered the opening remarks. CAHS dean Lawrence Abrams, EdD, presented the faculty awards. Named for dean Abrams parents, The Fred and Sadye Abrams Award for Excellence in Clinical or Laboratory Instruction was awarded to Jaclyn M. Gleber, RDH, EdD, clinical associate professor in the department of dental hygiene, a specialist in periodontics whose research interest is interpersonal communication skills for dental healthcare providers. Janice P. Burke, OTR/L, FAOTA, MA, assistant professor, department of occupational therapy, was the recipient of the other two awards: the Burlington Resources Foundation Faculty Achievement Award and the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. In his remarks, dean Abrams noted the significance of earning both awards in that the Burlington Award was a faculty selection process while the Lindback Award decision came via a student process. Ms. Burke's expertise is in pediatric occupational therapy and in clinical reasoning. At the ceremony, 32 students were inducted into the Alpha Eta Society, the national honor society for allied health, by Ruth Schemm, OTR/L, FAOTA, EdD, the College's chapter president. Also recognized were four recent inductees into the Sigma Phi Alpha, the national honor society of the dental hygiene profession, by Jenny K. Shaeffer, RDH, MS, secretary-treasurer of Jefferson's Beta Omega Chapter, as well as 57 recent inductees into Sigma Theta Tau, the international society of nursing, 45 undergraduate students, 10 graduate students and two community members by Joan Kane Amick, RN, MSN, president-elect of Jefferson's Delta Rho Chapter. In addition, dean Abrams recognized several faculty for length of service. They were: for 15 years, Sharon Renshaw, RN, MSN, nursing; for 10 years, Julie Mount, PT, MA, physical therapy, Caryn Johnson, OTR/L, MS, occupational therapy, and Raymond W. Campbell, PhD, John J. Fallon, Arthur A. Grugan, PhD, Donald P. Johnson, MBA, Patricia B.
