====================== JeffNEWS, June 7, 1994 ====================== Jefferson's Product Review Committee Realizes $248,000 Savings After First Year ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Efforts by Jefferson's product review committee have realized a savings of $247,565 after one year. The committee's purpose is to develop and implement a formalized process of product review to reduce nonsalary expenses, find the most acceptable hospital products at the best price and promote standardization of products hospitalwide. Its first-year review of 28 products yielded savings ranging from $400 to $32,000. One of the new product systems approved by the committee is the Braun/Burron Safe Site IV-Needleless System which went into service May 23 and has been well received by nursing staff. Purpose of the system is to reduce needle sticks. Committee co-chairs are Richard C. Alberto, assistant hospital executive director for support services, and Karen F. Oxler, RN, MSN, assistant nursing director, surgical care program. Four subcommittees are chaired by: Susan Gerhart, RN, manager, nursing staff development, nursing service; James A. Stewart, director, supply, processing and distribution department; Philip J. Mesisca, administrator, anesthesiology department; and William J. Wardle, assistant vice president for materiel management. The parent committee approves or disapproves subcommittee recommendations for clinical trials and reports to Alan L.
