JMC Class Day Honors Presented
------------------------------

   During Class Day ceremonies preceding graduation, Joseph S. Gonnella,
MD, senior vice president for academic affairs and dean, Jefferson
Medical College, presented 74 awards and prizes to members of the Class
of 1994, one award to a third-year student and four awards to faculty
members for their outstanding achievements.

   The Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback award for distinguished
teaching was presented to Thomas J. Nasca, MD, JMC '75, clinical
associate professor of medicine.

   The Burlington Resources Foundation Faculty Achievement Award for
excellence in teaching and research productivity was presented to Renato
V. Iozzo, MD, professor of pathology and cell biology.

   The Blockley-Osler Award for excellence in the teaching of clinical
medicine by a faculty member of a Jefferson-affiliated hospital went to
Robert S. McGregor, MD, clinical associate professor of pediatrics at
Geisinger Medical Center.

   The Leon A. Peris Memorial Award for excellence in clinical teaching
and superior patient care by a member of the volunteer faculty went to
John R. Patterson, MD, JMC '54, clinical associate professor of
medicine.

   Among the prizes awarded graduating students were:
   o The William Potter Memorial Prize in Clinical Medicine for highest 
     attainment - John B. Bruder III; honorable mention: Matthew Don 
     Barber
   o The Alumni Prize for highest cumulative record - Mr. Barber; 
     honorable mention, Mr. Bruder.
   o The J. Woodrow Savacool Prize in Medical Ethics - Tracy Rose Calvo; 
     honorable mention: Mary M. Maniscalco 

   Before the presentation of awards and prizes, the students, their
families and friends heard Robert L. Perkel, MD, clinical associate
professor of family medicine, deliver the Class Day address, "The
Patient Continues to Be the One with the Disease - or - Remember to Keep
Your Eye on the Ball!".

   "Imagine," was the title of the remarks delivered by Class Day
speaker, Richard Anthony Van Meter, chosen by his classmates for the
honor.
