======================= JeffNEWS, July 12, 1994 ======================= `Teaming Up to Make a Difference' Wraps Up, Jefferson Deems Program a Success ------------------------------------------- After 21 weeks marked by early-morning and late-night team meetings, imaginative brainstorming sessions and battling writer's cramp from filling out idea submittal forms, Jefferson's employee suggestion program, "Teaming Up to Make a Difference" ended on July 5. The efforts of 474 hardworking teams and countless other players - system managers, resource people, information coordinators, evaluation committee members, financial representatives, steering committee members, implementation managers and implementation directors - have resulted in, as of July 5, 339 approved ideas worth more than $3.1 million in savings to the University. Our success in saving Jefferson millions of dollars guarantees one team a vacation in the tropical paradise of Hawaii and permits team members to reap award credits redeemable for valuable merchandise. Ideas are still being evaluated and calculated, but by July 5, 15 teams (two from the Ford Road Campus) have come up with ideas that totaled at least $50,000 in savings or revenue. $50,000 is the minimum amount required to be eligible for the travel award. When Jefferson reaches $3.5 million in savings, two teams will jet to Hawaii for one week. Begun on January 24, Phase I of the employee suggestion program asked team members to think of ways to reduce costs, generate revenue or improve efficiency throughout the University. Ideas related to enhancing customer satisfaction, improving workplace safety or expanding educational quality were submitted during Phase II, which ran from June 13 through July 5. Only Phase I ideas were considered for the top travel award. "The hard work of many teams has paid off in the number of creative and cost-saving ideas submitted," commented Robert A. Peterson, senior vice president for administration and finance and chief financial officer. "A special benefit of this program was that employees from various divisions and departments were given the opportunity to work together to develop ideas. By rethinking the way the University does business, these ideas will enhance efficiency and have a positive impact on our bottom line." The winners of the trip to Hawaii will be announced August 15.
