=========================== JeffNEWS, December 13, 1994 =========================== Take Advantage of Jefferson's New Employee Assistance Program ------------------------------------------------------------- From time to time, life's "ups and downs" can put an additional strain on family relationships, interfere with functioning at work and even put health at risk. Beginning January 1, the Advantage: Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will be available to all employees and their dependents to help manage these periods of difficulty or transition. "For the last five years the University has offered an employee assistance program, but it was limited to alcohol or drug abuse problems," explained John P. Sullivan, associate vice president for human resources. "The new Jefferson Advantage: EAP is a significant improvement, offering professional guidance for a broad range of concerns, and I am pleased to see this enhancement of one of our important family-oriented benefits," Mr. Sullivan said. The Advantage: Employee Assistance Program is a confidential short-term counseling and referral program. An employee can contact Jefferson Advantage with anything that presents difficulty at work, or that may be affecting personal or social life. The issues that most frequently result in an employee contacting the EAP are marital and family matters, emotional difficulties, legal and financial problems, life changes, and alcohol or drug use. All consultations are voluntary and confidential. Mr. Sullivan emphasized that the initial problem assessment and up to five counseling sessions are at no cost to Jefferson employees and their dependents. "If ongoing counseling is required, a referral can be made to a variety of specialists and resources within the Advantage network," he added. "That cost is the employee's responsibility, but may be covered through existing insurance coverage." Advantage offers two locations in Philadelphia - Suite 1220, 1015 Chestnut Street, and 2337 S. 13th Street. Although regular office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, early morning and evening hours are available by appointment. If the Philadelphia locations are not convenient for any reason, Advantage will make other arrangements at no cost. As a special service for dependent students living away from home, a call to the Advantage toll-free number will enable them to access the program and be referred to a counselor in their area. That number is 1-800- 327-9033. Additional information about the employee assistance program may be obtained from the office of employee relations at 7758. Please keep in mind, however, that if you would like to discuss how the EAP can help you in a specific situation or wish to consult an EAP counselor on any issue, you may contact Advantage: Employee Assistance Program directly and confidentially by calling 215-955-4003. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Information provided by: Editor, JeffNEWS (215) 955-6204 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
