=========================== JeffNEWS, November 15, 1994 =========================== Holiday Events Say Thanks by Sharing Your Bounty --------------------------------- As you prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and loved ones next week, please take a moment to remember those in need and donate an item to Jefferson's fall food drive. Bring any of the items listed below to the 10th or 11th Street Atriums in the Gibbon Building, Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18. Please place your much-needed food contribution in the large orange containers there for that purpose. Donations will help stock local food cupboards that will distribute your gifts to people who appreciate your generosity. Needed are nonperishable staples such as: o canned fruit juices o decaffeinated coffee and iced tea mix o canned tuna fish o canned meats o canned fruit and vegetables o peanut butter o jelly o packaged pasta and macaroni and cheese o packaged cereal o personal items including toothbrushes, tooth paste, razors, shampoo and similar products This year's food drive is sponsored by Jefferson's department of volunteer services in cooperation with St. John's Catholic Church. Give Books and Toys for Shelters Housing Homeless ------------------------------------------------- JeffCARES will conduct a toy and book drive to benefit shelters housing homeless women and children. Members of the College of Allied Health Sciences' departments of occupational therapy, physical therapy and nursing and Jefferson Medical College have formed a committee to organize this event. New, unwrapped books and toys may be dropped off at the Office of Academic Affairs,163 JAH, beginning today through Friday, December 16. Have Brunch With Santa ---------------------- Come have brunch with Santa in Jefferson Alumni Hall's Dining Room on Sunday, December 4. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Santa visiting the entire time. The price for the brunch is $10.95 per person, $8.95 with student ID, $9.95 with employee ID and $4.95 for children under 12. To make your reservation for brunch with Santa, call 7931. Hear the Holiday Music, Renew Your Spirit ----------------------------------------- Mark your calendar now for Thomas Jefferson University Choir and Orchestra's annual holiday concert on Friday, December 16 at 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on the corner of 17th and Sansom streets. Come to the concert to relax and enjoy the program featuring the Christmas portion of G.F. Handel's Messiah. Robert T. Sataloff, MD, professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, directs the choir, which is composed of Jefferson physicians, nurses, students, employees, alumni and spouses. Include TJU's Holiday Toy Drive ------------------------------------------------------------ We know it's only October, but the best of holidays begin with early planning. Make your holidays exceptional this year; plan to participate in Jefferson's Holiday Toy Drive Holiday activities will soon be upon us, and Jefferson will sponsor this outreach program to brighten the holiday season hopes for families less fortunate than many of us. As you draw up your holiday list, please include Jefferson's Holiday Toy Drive. The Holiday Toy Drive is sponsored by the department of housing and residence life. Unwrapped, new toys and games will be collected and distributed to local community agencies. Please drop off your toys from Thursday, December 1 to Thursday, December 15, at any of the following locations: The Atrium, lobby areas at Barringer, Edison, Jefferson Alumni Hall, Martin and Orlowitz buildings.
