======================== JeffNEWS, May 17, 1994 ======================== Make Patients and Visitors Feel Welcome With the Right Image ------------------------------------------------------------ The first thing many people notice about you is your dress and appearance. How many times do you check your image in the mirror before going on a date or to a social event? If you make a poor first impression, it may take a long time to overcome any damage done. This is unfortunate when you're trying to make a favorable impression. This is true for all of us at work as well. How we dress for work sends a distinct message to others. If we want patients and visitors to continue choosing Jefferson's services, it's important that the message we send to them is one of professionalism and respect. It's true that dressing a bit informally is appropriate in certain departments. And it's up to each department to establish its own dress code to best fit the jobs employees do. But, please remember that what you wear at home on the weekends may not be suitable for the job you perform at the University, no matter how informal your department's dress code. Think twice before coming to work wearing an article of clothing that may offend others or send the wrong impression to fellow employees or the people Jefferson serves. Likewise, if you wear a uniform or lab coat while on the job, make sure it's clean and presentable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Information provided by: Editor, JeffNEWS (215) 955-6204 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
