An approved employee suggestion program idea suggests substituting a "Post- it (TM)" fax label to your communication instead. Not only will this decrease fax transmission time, but it will also save on paper costs. You can order your fax "Post-it (TM)" labels from the 1994 Stationary Catalog, page 652. PHYSICALLY DISADVANTAGED EMPLOYEES BENEFIT FROM `TEAMING UP' PARKING IDEA ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Employees who are physically disadvantaged are now eligible to receive valet parking at a reduced rate of $5 during severely inclement weather, thanks to an employee suggestion approved for the qualitative phase of "Teaming Up To Make A Difference." To be eligible, employees must meet the following guidelines: o You must show your Jefferson ID to valet attendant. o You must have handicapped license tags on your vehicle. o Weather must be severely inclement (snow or ice). DIS INTRODUCES SEVERAL NEW FEATURES TO TELEPHONE PAGING SYSTEM -------------------------------------------------------------- Jefferson staff and employees can now benefit from improvements made to the University's telephone paging system by the department of information systems (DIS). The paging system you reach by dialing "22" has been upgraded and expanded to speed access to the system, says Theresa Kempf, manager, technical assistance center and telephone room, DIS. New Motorola pagers that handle up to 15 digits have replaced numerous pagers that could handle only four digits. In addition, the system capacity has been increased to eliminate frequent busy signals. These improvements make it possible for staff and employees off campus to call directly into Jefferson's paging system without having to go through the Page Operator. You can do this by dialing 215-955-1303. In addition, if you receive a call from off campus while you are also off campus, the Page Operator can now page you with a 3-digit number, alerting you to the call and enabling you to return the call directly by dialing 215-955-1616, waiting for a dial tone, then dialing the 3-digit number showing on your pager. "We hope that staff and employees will take advantage of these new features enabling them to dial directly from off campus into Jefferson's paging system," says Ms. Kempf. DIS also replaced about 640 long-range pagers as result of a "Teaming Up To Make A Difference" employee suggestion, resulting in a significant cost savings, says Ms. Kempf. For more information about how to obtain a new pager or your pager's new features, call the Telephone Room at 6110. SCOTT LIBRARY ANNOUNCES NEW SECURITY POLICY; LIBRARY ACCESS IS AFFECTED ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A reminder to all Scott Library users: Effective January 16, 1995, several significant changes went into effect that impact how Jeffersonians and outsiders access the Scott Memorial Library. These changes are: o All Jeffersonians must show their valid identification card to the security officer on the first floor of the Scott Building in order to gain access to the Scott Memorial Library during day, evening and weekend hours. o In addition to requiring Jefferson staff and students to show and wear their identification badge at all times, the library's new security policy requires all other library users to purchase library cards. Full-time personnel from affiliated institutions, and Jefferson alumni, spouses and domestic partners of gay and lesbian faculty, students or staff may purchase a library card for a $5 annual fee. Library cards are available at the circulation desk on the library's second floor. o Jeffersonians with a valid ID will be permitted to bring in one guest with them to the library. In this case, both the staff member and guest must sign in and out of the Scott Building at the same time. o Members of the general public will be permitted access to the Scott Library on a limited basis and must purchase a monthly visitor's pass for $1. "The library experiences some of the heaviest traffic of any location on campus," explains Edward Tawyea, MLS, director of the Scott Memorial Library, "and although the University's policy has always been that identification badges be worn at all times while on campus, that was not strictly enforced in the library. These policy changes will provide for improved security. By limiting access to our facility by nonJeffersonians, we are also balancing the needs of the Jefferson community with those of the general public.
