========================== JeffNEWS, January 31, 1995 ========================== DEAL YOURSELF IN: The Jefferson 2000 Fund Is Counting On You! ------------------------------------------- Look for the distinctive "Deal Yourself In" banner stretched across Walnut Street! Jeffersonians will be seeing and hearing this slogan around campus over the next few weeks as the employee campaign phase of The Jefferson 2000 Fund gets under way. The University's capital fundraising effort, begun publicly three years ago, is geared to reach a total of $200 million by the year 2000 to further goals vital to the University's and the community's well-being. Kenneth W. Moore, vice president for development, reports that The Jefferson 2000 Fund has so far raised more than $100 million from foundations, corporations and individuals, putting the campaign ahead of schedule. The University is now asking employees to join in this endeavor. In past campaigns, Jeffersonians have been generous in their support. Campaign kick-off week starts Monday, February 6, with activities scheduled around campus to alert everyone to this Universitywide effort. The campaign materials and pledge card you will receive with your paycheck on Thursday, February 9 - kickoff day - will contain information about the drive and how to make your pledge. Your contribution to The Jefferson 2000 Fund counts in two ways. Overall, it will help Jefferson become even stronger by the turn of the century, as it continues to face changes in the American healthcare system. "Just as important is the signal your gift sends to those community sources from whom we seek major support," Mr. Moore said. "They want to know that we're willing to help ourselves. That's why your contribution is vital, no matter what the amount." Because Jeffersonians may have different areas within the University that are of special significance to them, you have a choice of where to direct your gift: o to patient care o to financial aid for students of Jefferson Medical College and the College of Allied Health Sciences o to fellowships for graduate students in the College of Graduate Studies o to general support for the University "Determining the size of your gift is a personal decision," said University president Paul C. Brucker, MD. "Jefferson's board of trustees, senior officers, senior managers and faculty have already made substantial commitments to the campaign. Now I hope you will do whatever you can to help." The following suggested giving scale, based on annual salary, may help you determine the amount of your gift: Salary Suggested Biweekly Total Annual Payroll Five-Year Gift Deduction Gift $10,000 $ 100 $ 3.85 $ 500 $15,000 $ 150 $ 5.77 $ 750 $20,000 $ 200 $ 7.69 $1,000 $30,000 $ 300 $11.54 $1,500 $40,000 $ 400 $15.38 $2,000 $50,000 $1,000 $38.46 $5,000 or more "All giving is voluntary and confidential," Mr. Moore added. "You may be able to make a larger pledge than you thought possible by spreading the payment of your gift over five years. This will be easier to do through a payroll deduction of a few dollars each week." The amount deducted each pay period must be at least 50 cents. Employees are being asked to return their pledge cards by Wednesday, March 1. An inter-office return envelope addressed to the development office will be included in your packet. If you wish to participate anonymously, you may do so by taking your gift to 315 Ben Franklin House at 834 Chestnut Street and marking it to the attention of Arlene Adair, associate for donor relations. "However you make your pledge, it will allow you to invest in Jefferson's future and make you a part of a team effort that is going very well," said Mr. Moore. Look for the employee campaign's distinctive logo around campus in the weeks to come. Throughout kick-off week, members of The 2000 Fund Employee Advisory Committee, whose names appear in the box accompanying this article, will be stationed in key spots to answer your questions. There are also some surprises in store during kick-off week. Be on the lookout - you'll see a few celebrities around Jefferson during that time! Meanwhile, please think about "dealing yourself in."
